Shana Shroll Announces Campaign

for County Commission

Grand Rapids, MI - Shana Shroll announced today her candidacy for the 19th District County Commission seat.

She currently serves as Director of the West Michigan Executive Office of Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.  During her tenure, she organized and raised funds for the 2008 National Association of Secretaries of State Conference in Grand Rapids.

A graduate of East Kentwood High School and Michigan State University, Shroll has a long history of community involvement. Since 2007, she has served on the Eastgate Neighborhood Association Board.  She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids, and an active volunteer for the Gerald R. Ford Foundation.

“I am excited to get to work on behalf of the citizens of the 19th District,” said Shana Shroll. “My campaign is about priorities – making sure government focuses on its core functions first and foremost.

“Regardless of the economic situation, government should live within its means,” Shroll continued.  “We should be focusing on how to make government services as efficient as possible because every dollar of the county’s budget comes from hard working families.  We can’t afford to be wasteful.”

Currently the 19th District is represented by Democrat Commissioner Bob Synk who narrowly defeated incumbent Republican Commissioner Nadine Klein by 160 votes in 2008.

The 19th district includes the southeast portion of the City of Grand Rapids.  Shroll lives in the Eastgate Neighborhood with her husband, Jason, and their son Colin.

Shana Shroll Bio

A 1997 graduate of East Kentwood High School, Shana Shroll has long been interested in helping make the world around her a better place to live. After graduating with high honors, she attended James Madison College of Public Policy at Michigan State University, where she graduated with Honors with a major in Social Relations.

Shortly after graduating, she worked on her first campaign – a statewide ballot initiative.  Although unsuccessful, it fueled her interest in the political process as a means for effecting change.

Mrs. Shroll currently serves as Director of the West Michigan Executive for Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, where she helps constituents, communicates the Department’s message to the West Michigan community and oversees events and special projects. Most notably, she coordinated the 2008 National Association of Secretaries of State conference in Grand Rapids – a meeting of more than 300 leaders from around the country that generated $1 million into the state’s economy.

Since becoming interested in the political process as a high school student, she has served as volunteer on dozens of campaigns on local, state and federal levels.  She also had the honor in 2007 of participating in the State Funeral of President Gerald R. Ford as Volunteer Coordinator, and also helped organize the airport arrival ceremony.

In her free time, she serves on the board of the Eastgate Neighborhood Association, the Third District Republican State Committee, and volunteers for the Downtown Alliance, the Women’s Resource Center and the Michigan Center for Civic Education.

She lives in southeast Grand Rapids with her husband, Jason, and their son, Colin.
